Join us for the Annual Heroes Team Challenge!

Heroes Half Marathon and 5K Team Challenge offers an exciting opportunity for registered participants to create teams to compete against each other. We will be hosting the annual Heroes Team Challenge during the Heroes Half Marathon and 5K! We encourage Police, Fire and EMT departments s to promote a healthy lifestyle by rounding up members to get fit and come on out to run the Heroes Half or 5K while showing some TEAM spirit!

Eligibility

Any Police/Fire/EMT group in Wayne Co. can create teams to compete in Heroes Half or 5K! Team members must be individually registered and currently serving for the department. Each team must have a minimum of four members to be scored. When registering for a race, make sure to select the team you wish to compete on. To compete on a team, you must register before Noon on September 29, 2016. See the scoring categories below.

Community members can join the Community Spirit Competition in attempt to win the participation award for your community. Make sure to check "Running in Support of..." on your registration form to be eligible for the Community Spirit Competition.

Teams can be selected in the online registration form. If your team is not there please e-mail us and we can add it!

 

Competitions

  • Half Marathon and 5K Timed Competitions - Female, Male and Mixed (Male/Female)
  • Community Spirit Competition
  • Wayne County Cup

 

Scoring

  • Half Marathon and 5K Timed Competitions
    • Results are computed by adding a team’s four fastest chip times. The team with the fastest accumulated time in each division (Male, Female, Mixed) will be declared the winner. Mixed teams must have at least two male and two female participants.

 

  • Community Spirit Competition
    • In addition to the timed competition, there will be a participation competition. Awards will be presented to the teams with the greatest number of members who register and finish. Team members may compete in Heroes Half marathon or 5K to be included in this competition. Participation numbers will be a combination of First Responders and "In Support of First Responders."
    • NEW FOR 2017, there will be a $500 cash prize to the First Responder Departmnet with the most participants supporting their department. Deadline for registration for the Community Spirit award is noon on Thursday, September 28. 

 

  • Wayne County Cup (Half Marathon distance only)
    • Results are computed by adding a team’s four fastest chip times in the half marathon distance. The team with the fastest accumulated time will be declared the winner. ALL MEMBERS OF THE TEAM MUST BE CURRENTLY EMPLOYEED BY A POLICE OR FIRE DEPARTMENT.

 

Awards

Winning teams will receive inscribed plaques after the race.

  • Half Marathon and 5K Timed Competitions (Female, Male and Mixed)
    • Half Marathon and 5K Male Teams – 1st , 2nd and 3rd place awards
    • Half Marathon and 5K Female Teams – 1st , 2nd and 3rd place awards
    • Half Marathon and 5K Mixed Teams – 1st , 2nd and 3rd place awards
  • Community Spirit Competition
    • Teams with the most registered and finished participants 1st , 2nd and 3rd place awards
  • Wayne County Cup
    • Fastest team in the Half Marathon distance will be awarded the Wayne County Cup (WCC). The winner team retains possession of the trophy until the next year's Heroes Half Marathon. Winning team names will be added to the WCC for years to come and it will be a coveted prize that warrants a community parade when the team travels back to their hometown.
